Description
These drawers came to NZ in the 1950's & ended up in St Anthony’s Convent, Huntly. When the Convent was moved in the 80's, they were relegated to a tool shed - where they remained until last year.
They are rustic & clearly had a tough life but have been beautifully revived & are ready to last another 50+ years.
Although these drawers are now clean & gleaming, none of their history has been erased. All the dings, dents, gaps, old nail holes & all the other signs you would expect after 40 rough years in a shed - have been embraced & mostly left in place so as to show it's story.
As is to be expected, it has had borer at some stage but it's long gone - there was a disintigrating sticker stating it had been treated in 1979. Amazingly, just 1 small area was ever affected & that has been embraced too and not covered in the restoration - as it's all part of it's colourful past. As it's been 40+ years, Franklin Furniture Restoration applied another borer treatment but as it technically wasn't needed - it was applied as a preventative rather than a curative!
The sides and feet are painted in a gorgeous dusky linen colour.
Although this would look fabulous in your bedroom, it would make an even better hall table or buffet / dresser.

Hi there - Please can i see some closer pics of the drawers if possible, the top, the back and the area of borer damage. Did you put the wall paper on the sides ? what was the wood like underneath the paper ? Thank you p******7 (82 • 10:58 am, Thu, 16 May )Hi! Thank you for your interest! The ends have not been wallpapered. They were painted because one end is mahogany. At some point someone has replaced the end panels - using whatever they had on hand! The mahogany's in great condition - it's just very dark compared to the rest of the timber. I've uploaded a couple of photos I have on my phone but we'll take the additional photos over the weekend for you. Warm regards. charlottew (2455 • Thursday, 16 May 2024 )Hi - the sides look like the wallpaper design on your walls. I think it would be better if I could talk to you about this piece.
