Description
The time has come to part with one of the jewels in my collection. This is a 1979, fully-functioning, 32k machine, with a BASIC 4 ROM fitted. The keyboard has been replaced, which means all keys work (which often a problem with these machines). The video is steady and stable. There are a few minor scuffs (see photos), but otherwise it’s very clean and would be a real feature in any kind of retro-display or collection.
With the machine, you’ll get lots of extras:
- a SD2PET Future which is a disk emulator (See https://www.classic-computers.org.nz/blog/2020-04-18-SD2PET-review.htm).
- an earlier disk emulator called PetDisk (See https://web.archive.org/web/20171230064434/http://www.bitfixer.com/bf/petdisk/petdisk-operation). Although earlier than the SD2PET Future, the PetDISK has the advantage of maintaining an IEEE-488 interface edge and providing audio jacks for a standard cassette recorder.
- a Pet ROM/RAM replacement drop in device, which can come in handy if either ROM or RAM fails (https://www.tfw8b.com/product/commodore-pet-rom-ram/)
- a spare (non-working) fully populated motherboard for parts,
- a book, a magazine, a pamphlet and Pet-themed mousepad (see photos).
Both the SD2PET Future and PetDisk include a large software library.
Like most computers pre-1980, Commodore PETs are temperamental. It’s working well at the moment, and has behaved every time I’ve dragged it out for the last 10 years, but these electronics can fail at any time, hence no guarantees.
This computer is heavy and fragile, so the item is pickup only. I’m happy to hold it here for a few days or weeks until the buyer (or their representative) can collect it, providing payment has been made.
The Commodore Pet 2001-N/CBM 3032 is part of my collection, the bulk of which I’m slowly passing on. You can read (or watch on the linked video) my thoughts on it, and learn something of its history here: https://www.classic-computers.org.nz/collection/pet.htm
