A VERY RARE EARLY CLARICE CLIFF ATHENS SHAPE TEA POT AND COVER "AUTUMN CROCUS" PATTERN 1929
This is a very rare early Clarice Cliff Athens shape Tea Pot and cover decorated in the "Autumn Crocus" pattern and dates from 1929. The Tea pot is decorated with the large Crocus flowers and hand painted "Crocus" backstamp. The pattern was changed in early 1930 to smaller flowers in order to save on paint.
The Tea pot is from a 6 place Tea service being the medium size in the Athens range. The pot carries the early back stamp "Hand painted, Bizarre by Clarice Cliff Newport Pottery, England with CROCUS hand painted in Green. The Tea pot measures 9" from handle to spout and 5 1/2" across the flats and stands 5 1/2" high with lid in place.
The pot is decorated to both sides with clumps of large Crocus flowers in shades of Orange, Purple and Blue backed by Green leaves. It is banded in Brown and Green to the base, Green and Yellow to the top rim. The lid is painted in Yellow and Green with an Orange finial.
The paintwork is vivid and thickly applied.
The Tea pot is in very good condition with no chips, cracks, paint loss or restoration of any kind.
