Description

Six cuttings of the yellow flowering Buddleia (Buddleia weyeriana) "Golden Glow", plus six cuttings of each of the white "White Profusion", the dark purple "Black Knight" & the winter flowering Buddleja auriculata from South Africa (see photo).

ALSO INCLUDED ARE TWO ROOTED CUTTINGS OF EITHER THE YELLOW FLOWERING BUDDLEIA OR ANOTHER COLOUR.

Buddleja auriculata is a mass of bloom right now. It's sweet smelling flowers are rich in nectar & attractive to birds, especially Bellbirds & Tuis. With its profusion of blooms continuing well into late spring it will attract overwintering butterflies eager to start the breeding season.

The yellow flowering variety (see photo) has a very long flowering season as opposed to the other varieties.

Just plant some swan plants nearby to feed the Monarch caterpillars & stinging nettle to feed the caterpillars of both the Red & the Yellow Admiral Butterflies. The butterflies will live in your garden & continually repeat their life-cycles throughout summer as long as you keep up with their food supplies.

Goldfinches, in particular, will flock to feed on Buddleia seeds in the autumn.

Cuttings root easily in a shady spot in damp, rich soil such as Bioblend. They grow rapidly in October & quickly form numerous buds.

Once cuttings are rooted, carefully transplant them to a sunny area of your garden - they tend to sulk so make sure they are watered daily until they pick up.

Buddleias are very hardy & can tolerate harsh frosts & snow. They are semi-deciduous & should be cut back hard during their dormant period. Whilst they will tolerate poor soil & high temperatures in the summer months they need to be watered. They anchor themselves firmly with strong roots so can cope with strong winds, however, it is best to stake them whilst young if planted in high wind areas. If left unpruned the white & purple varieties will grow to approx. 12ftH x 4ftW - yellow 6ftH x 4ftW whereas the winter flowering one will reach approx. 20ft x 7ftW.
