This is a collectible reproduction of a Benin bronze leopard sculpture. It measures 7 x 4 cm It looks fantastic and a bit scary! Sadly there is a weld at the base of the tail but this has been skilfully repaired The leopard is a powerful symbol in Benin culture, representing the Oba's (king's) authority and high status as "King of the Forest". Historically, these figures were made using the lost-wax technique by specialist guilds for the royal palace. The spots are typically depicted as raised circles, as seen in the image.
