Description
With their fluid lines and confident proportions, these classic chairs offer exceptional comfort while exemplifying the finest traditions of mid-century New Zealand craftsmanship and design.
Through continued use, one gradually comes to appreciate the sculptural curve where the armrests meet the front legs — a subtle detail that recalls Cubist form. This beauty reveals itself slowly, growing more resonant and timeless with familiarity.
These beauties were quite a radical design for their time and are now a very rare and coveted piece of vintage furniture.
They are constructed entirely from solid oak, featuring coil springs and a webbed seat suspension. The subtly slanted seat and backrest provide excellent comfort, whilst the backrest boasts a unique curved lumbar support. The wide, slanted armrests are reminiscent of Hans Werner’s ‘GE290’ plank chair, and the distinctive, elongated rear legs give them that rocket-like speed!
