Description
Art Deco Silver-Plated Table Lighter with Conical Snuffer Probably British or Continental (export market), c. 1929–1932
Silver-plated table lighter of classic late-Art-Deco form, comprising a stepped cylindrical fuel reservoir with fitted burner aperture and a detachable conical snuffer cap surmounted by a flame-shaped finial. The proportions and restrained geometry are characteristic of the high Machine-Age period immediately prior to Streamline Moderne.
The lighter bears a series of struck maker’s marks in a rectangular cartouche, terminating in a capital “S”, consistent with inter-war commercial silver-plated manufacture for the export market rather than British assay-marked sterling production. Wick aperture approx. 3 mm, indicating a traditional petrol (spirit) lighter rather than butane.
Weight 102 g. Presented complete with snuffer; surface wear consistent with age, no structural damage observed.
A refined and understated example of late-1920s smoking tableware, closely comparable in form and period to contemporary luxury table lighters by Dunhill and Walker & Hall, though unbranded. 120 mm tall
