Description

Here's an oddity for your collection: A banknote from Tatarstan, a former Autonomous Republic in the USSR, now part of the Russian Federation. (What looks like “mamapcmah” is Tatarstan written in the Cyrillic alphabet.)

It is printed on only one side and has no denomination but was worth 100 rubles.

According to Numista, these “currency cheques” were issued in 1991-92 after the breakup of the Soviet Union as a response to the hyperinflation and shortages of basic good across the newly formed Russian Federation.

They come in different colours (grey, pink and yellow) but all seemed to be worth 100 rubles.

The picture represents Soyembika Tower, the best known landmark in Kazan, Tatarstan's main city.

** UPDATES **

If you win an auction and get your address and payment to me on Sunday night (or Monday morning), I'll get your notes in the post on Monday. That way you should get them the same week, even Wednesday if you're lucky. But no problem holding an item if you want to wait and combine postage.

Aramex has put up the price of its smallest courier package to $5.50, so my cheapest option with tracking is now NZ Post economy parcel for $5.20. (that's the old price, I bought a whole bunch of tracking stickers before the price went up on July 1.)

I'm also holding the cost of regular post to $2.30 until I run out of Kiwi stamps bought at the old price. I suspect that's the best rate you'll find on Trademe. At the post office you'll pay $2.90 for regular post.

I'm happy to combine postage if you win more than one note or coin. If you accidentally end up paying for two lots of postage, I'll refund you via Ping or internet banking.

COINS

If you're into coins as well as banknotes, I'm also listing interesting coins most Sundays, almost all with a $1 starting price. Add me to your favourites!
