Description
The Bronze Dolphin Money of Skythia is renowned as one of the earliest forms of Coinage in Europe. These "coins" were minted in the 5th and 6th centuries BC to honor the God Apollo Delphinios.
Each of these coins would have been used for trade or as religious offerings in the town to worship their patron god.
Many of the coins truly resemble dolphins while others are cast in the rough shape of a dolphin suggesting there were multiple manufacturers or that the quality of the make changed over time.
