Description

This copper medallion was issued to school children for the 1901 visit to New Zealand by the Duke and Duchess of Cornwall and York on HMS Ophir.

The duke later became King George V.

Obv: Image of H.M.S. Ophir with legend: H.M.S. OPHIR IN WHICH THEIR ROYAL HIGHNESSES CAME TO N.Z. / JUNE 1901

Rev: CHILDREN'S SOUVENIR, VISIT DUKE & DUCHESS OF CORNWALL TO N.Z.

It is 27mm in diameter and 2mm thick and is holed.

It has not been cleaned for many years but has been kept in the protective holder pictured.

Please note that the medallions may differ very slightly from the one in the photograph as we have several of them on hand.
