Mintage 5,501. Issued only in the 4-coin gold proof set of that year, and by far the most popular denomination in the set. One of the very few British gold coins to be struck with a plain edge instead of the normal milled edge.
One of only two sovereign-sized gold coins with his portrait issued during the entire reign of George VI (the other being the 1952 issue of South Africa). A lovely example.
