This 164-year-old periodical, Cassell's Illustrated Family Paper - Vol V, No 111, has the dateline: London, Saturday, January 14, 1860.
It cost one penny, was published weekly and is a 14-page 21x27.5cm instalment in good used condition.
The journals published 19th-century novels and short stories, facts from around the world, and puzzles.
There were always numerous black and white etchings. In later times, the best of these were often framed and sold by dealers.
Cassell's Illustrated Family Paper (1853-1867) became Cassell's Family Magazine in 1874, Cassell's Magazine in 1897, and, after 1912, Cassell's Magazine of Fiction.
