This is the most sought after New Zealand bird print original. The Huia.Neomorpha Gouldii. Beautifully Framed in Victorian Birdseye Maple moulding. The first edition of Buller's A History of the Birds of New Zealand was published in 1872-1873, with 36 hand-colored lithographic plates by Johannes Gerardus Keulemans. The plates were hand-colored by Dr. R. Bowdler Sharpe's daughters. The book was a critical and commercial success, with a limited edition of 500 copies. Exceptionally rare in fine condition. Frame 395 x 470 mm. This is an original hand coloured litho plate.
