THIS IS ANOTHER OF THE CHINESE MINERS PORTABLE BUDDHA TEMPLES FROM THE MID 19th CENTURY ( c.1860 - 1880's ) These are special pieces of kauri amber/gum from the estate museum and included with each piece is the quite moving written verse from the museum collection. This is another of the very rare pieces from the estate Museum items and is a Victorian Chinese portable Buddha Temple that was carried from place to place from mining and Kauri diggers camps, this portable Buddha Temple was owned by either the second son Choie Kum Yok 1855 - 1932 or Choie Kum Poy 1869 -1942 of father Choie Sew Hoy the Chinese business man Choie Sew Hoy from Central Otago who supplied provisions & equipment to miners on the goldfields and his two sons Choie Kum Yok 1855 - 1932 and Choie Kum Poy 1869 -1942 both moved North to the gum fields to market supplies to the gum diggers for their father and the notes say that either one of the sons the second sons owned this Kauri amber/gum portable Temple that dates around the 1880's that has some sort of green stone or agate Buddha at the front on the hand polished Kauri amber/gum which travelled around with them in the stunning copper and brass embossed wooded box for carrying it around and also has a small block of cut and part polished swamp Kauri gum with ancient wood within it as a base to sit on.
