Beginning their occupation of Britain under Emperor Claudius in ad 43, the Roman armies soon gained control of much of the southeast of Britain. At a point just north of the marshy valley of the Thames, where two low hills were sited, they established Londinium with a bridge giving access from land to the south. The first definite mention of London refers to the year ad 60 and occurs in the work of the Roman historian Tacitus. Please view pictures all questions answered for you.
