Sawskate rostral denticle - 60mm / 2.3" Onchopristis numida (scientific name) Kem Kem Group, Morocco 100 - 95 million years old
Onchopristis is an extinct genus of sawskate. It had a flattened and elongated rostrum with lingually curved and barbed tooth-like modified denticles on both sides. Basically, its nose was a terrifying looking weapon. As the name suggests, they are a Skate, had a cartilaginous skeleton and grew to approx 4m in length. Their rostral denticles frequently come out of the ground in pieces, this one does have a repair.
