Description
Snaggletooth fossil shark tooth - 35mm / 1.4" Hemipristis serra (scientific name) Found on the east coast of the USA 23 - 5 million years old
The enamel on this Hemi tooth is stunning, so are the colours and at 1.4", this is a large specimen. These are amongst my favourite shark teeth, the root and crown are such a distinctive shape and those serrations are like nothing else! Hemipristis is a genus of shark with one extant species, however this tooth is from an extinct species, Hemipristis serra, which reached an estimated 7m long.
