Pictures taken in light from a widow showing the various colours and were taken on a white cloth as background. These stunning ancient shaped miniature pieces from their cabinets are late Victorian Kauri amber/gum pieces gathered by a Maori gum digger then cut, part polished and shaped as showing various examples and grades, they have many different colours of clear orange and yellow with red darker pieces and swirls within, these were bought by the estates Grandfather from a collection of Kauri items from a collector in Auckland in the late 1950's for the estates Museum display of miniature Kauri amber/gum items and the notes from the estate also mention they were probably cut and polished Circa 1890 --1900. Of interest is that the first recorded use of sandpaper was in 13th-century China when crushed shells, seeds, and sand were bonded to parchment using natural gum. Glass paper was invented in London 1883 by John Oakey and Victorians used to polish things like Kauri amber. Please view the many pictures.
