  • Have you had them verified as authentic? stoker1960 (201) • 8:29 pm, Sun, 15 Feb From the other bones that were found there, and the type of soil that would allow to preserve bones for that long, it was obvious that this was a Moa so I never bothered getting it tested. The tarsometararsus found with these bones is 20cm long, so if it's not Moa it would be somethimg even more interest. Willing to have the bones returned and to refund the buyer if they get it tested and it doesn't come out as being a Moa. anoukg (189) • Sunday, 15 February 2026

  • Good Morning, Was the area on private land limestone or Swamp the bones were found? Nice left Moa fossils. Cheers aroha1982 (12) • 9:51 am, Tue, 17 Feb Hi, it was found in old swamp deposit. anoukg (189) • Tuesday, 17 February 2026
  • The femur looks to be from a stoutlegged moa or maybe a large little bush moa which frequented that area but my money would be on the first. The other looks like a Thoracic Vertebra from a Moa also. Nice pieces of history. aroha1982 (12) • 10:33 am, Tue, 17 Feb My first thought was stout legged or Easter Moa. It's very fascinating to look into it 😊 anoukg (189) • Tuesday, 17 February 2026
