Description
Tibet has been oppressed since 1951 by the People’s Republic of China. Thousands of Tibetans have been murdered by the Chinese occupation forces, and numerous monks and civilians have set themselves on fire in protest at the long-running occupation, which is seldom queried by the United Nations, supposedly guardian against such atrocities. This is reminiscent of the 1960’s Vietnam War era when Buddhist monks in Saigon set themselves on fire.
A set of stamps has been issued by the Panama City Local Post in Florida to call attention to the plight of the Tibetan people and their struggle for freedom. Both stamps show the Tibet flag. Date of issue of the Tibet set was September 10th, 2012.
The designs:
- 65c ... Praying monk & Tibet flag.
- 85c ... Tibet flag.
This auction is for a COMPLETE MINIATURE SHEET of eight stamps (4 of each value). Single stamps are shown in the photo so you can clearly see the details of these stamps.
In the lower margin of the sheet is the text:
These stamps remember the 53rd anniversary of the Tibetan Uprising against the illegal Chinese occupation of their country. The uprising followed repeated Chinese violations of the 1951 "17 Point Agreement" which China forced on Tibet.
