Description
A nicely preserved early 1900's Challenge Machinery Co. type-high shute board, originally used in print shops and binderies for trimming blocks and cuts This is a genuine industrial tool from the golden age of letterpress printing — heavy cast iron construction, original hardware, and a fully intact manufacturer plate reading: “THE CHALLENGE MACHINERY CO. – GRAND HAVEN, MICH. U.S.A. – CHICAGO – NEW YORK CITY”
I can not find another one online, in a catalouge or similar. This seems to be very rare and not many of these shute boards survived since about 1903

- Wooden handle in good condition
- Original manufacturer plate (rare to find intact)
- Casting numbers: 1230-1 (base), 1219 (cap)

- Excellent for age and not restored, lighly oiled
- Clean, even patina

- Light wear consistent with historical use
