Description
Price reduction - now SO much less than I paid for this beautiful artwork!
Purchased in 2004 from RED Art Gallery when local painter, Rachelle Pratt, created an exquisite series featuring native birds of Aotearoa. This one is called 'The Empty Day' and depicts in hyper-realism the kotuku, (white heron) revered by Maori as a sacred bird. The kotuku is a symbol of beauty, rarity, and high status, often called 'He kotuku rerenga tahi' (a kotuku of a single flight) because it was seldom seen. Its presence signified a momentous occasion, and comparing someone to it was the highest compliment, reserved for chiefs and important guests; it's feathers were used for prestigious cloaks and adornments. It also holds spiritual significance, said to guide spirits to the stars, further cementing its place in mythology and folklore. MEASUREMENTS: 61cms high; 30cms wide; 3.5cms deep (boxed canvas).
- please note, I have just moved house, which is why I have not hung this painting. Very reluctant sale, but this house is very little!
