A very large framed and signed original watercolour painting by F Clark dating from 1948. Unfortunately subsequent to listing, the glass has been broken near the base, hence I'm adjusting the price accordingly and will be looking to send with no glass in front.

There is a lot to see in this original painting which features a thatched vicarage with the entrance to the church beyond, meanwhile 'front and centre' an old tree and a gravestone cross beside and in it's shade. The feel is of warmth or heat with a certain ageing and dryness. The artist has achieved the effect by the use of a subdued and subtle colour palette.

The painting measures 84cm by 68cm and as explained no longer has glass protecting and is therefore not very heavy anymore.

I now have a second work to auction by F (Fred) Clark - a watercolour of "Milford Sound" from 1980. I have also found another watercolour painting of a UK cathedral dated 1947, which sold at a Fine Art Auction in 2017. All other artworks, starting from 1960 onwards have been of NZ landscapes. Hence it's most likely as a younger person the artist was painting in the UK and subsequently NZ became his home.

Fred Clark had three paintings selected for the Hay's Art Competitions of 1962 and 1963.

The average realised price at auction for paintings by F Clark is NZ$335, but with Auction House estimates of $500-$1200, I would suggest his paintings may make a good investment.

This watercolour itself is in good condition, particularly considering it's age.
