Description

Fred Vargas is a french woman ( yes , Fred is short for Fredericka ) & author of the most brilliant kind ! Her murder mysteries feature COMMISSAIRE ADAMSBERG and are so cleverly & imaginatively written , that once you read one of them , you will be like me and hooked on them .

Set in Paris they are a total breath of fresh air in the crime genre .& they are simply RIVETING ! with twists and turns that will keep you guessing , as well as showcasing the lead characters unorthodox approach to solving the most unusual & complex of crimes . The authors insight into the strengths and weaknesses of the traits of Adamsbergs team of fellow police officersis quite brilliant and shows above all else what a keen observer of human nature she is .

Commissaire Adamsberg leaces Paris for a 3 day conference in London . Accompanying him are Estalere , a young sergeant & Commissaire Danglard who is terrified at the idea of travelling beneath the Channel . It is a welcome change of scenery , until a macabre & brutal case comes to the attention of their colleague Radstock , from New Scotland Yard .

Just outside the gates of the baroque Highgate cemetery a pile of shoes is found .Not so strange in itself , but the shoes contain severed feet .As Scotland Yards investigation begins Adamsberg & his colleagues return home & are confronted with a massacre in a suburban home .

Adamsberg & Danglard are drawn into a traip of vampires & vampire - hunters that lead them all the way to Serbia , a place where the old certainities no longer apply .

Commissaire Adamsberg finds himself in the line of fire as never before .
