Description

Author: A.H.Reed Published 2nd Edition January 1973 Printed by : A.H & A. W Reed Pages 193 Edition: Hard Cover with Dust Jacket Condition: Very good to excellent condition. Hard cover. Dust jacket has a few rubs

Here, A.H Reed tells the romantic story of Kauri Gum, the fossil gum produced by the Kauri tree in the vast forests that once flourished thouands of years ago and have vanised almost completely. The gumfields left behind by gum diggers of all nationalities have themselves faded into the pages of the past. This book talks about the golden age of Gum when real money could be made. It talks of a hard, disciplined life on the gumfields, of the euipment and skills employed in the search for gum. Written by a man who has lived as a gumdigger. The book had real meaning for me as I come from a gum digging history as recently as my grandparents.
