Description
A Turn At The Wheel by Stirling Moss 1st edition 1961 H/B D/J 239 pages D/J is a bit tatty, book has marks, bumps, foxing, etc., but otherwise good condition. The years covered in this book, 1957-1960, will have their special place in history as the period in which British racing cars and their drivers achieved complete dominance over their foreign rivals. In 1957 Moss won the British Grand Prix at Aintree driving a Vanwall - this was the first time that a British car had won the British Grand Prix. The year 1958 saw the epic battle between Mike Hawthorn and Moss for the World Championship - Hawthorn won it from Moss by one point to become the first British World Champion. The outcome was in the balance until the end of the last race of the year - the closest fought finish in the history of the Championship. In the same year Vanwall won the Constructor's Championship. The next year, 1959, saw the retirement of the Vanwall and the meteoric rise of the Cooper; with Moss and Brabham at the wheel, these cars scored up the World Championship for Brabham and the Constructor's Championship for Cooper. Also in this year the B.R.M. won its first Grand Prix. British success was finally consolidated in 1960; this country provided both the fastest cars and the fastest drivers. And the year was rounded off when the last World Championship event - the American Grand Prix at Sebring - was won by Moss driving a Lotus.
