"This book is a sequel to the author's booklet "Determining the stability of earth slopes and concrete dams on nonrocky foundations by the method of circular-cylindrical shearing surfaces" (Gosenergoizdat, 1963).

The first chapter deals with the stability of earth slopes under the assumption that the possible shearing surface of the soil consists of two or more planes (as is the case in earth dams with facings, in slopes having at the base "weak" plane soil layers, etc.)

A simple method of calculation is proposed on the basis of the analysis and critical discussion of the existing literature on the subject; this method is called by the author "method of inclined interaction forces", or simply "method of inclined forces".

In the second chapter, a relatively simple method is given for taking seepage forces into account when the stability of slopes is determined under the assumption of plane shearing surfaces.

In the third and last chapter it is shown how allowance is made for seismic forces when considering the stability of earth slopes. The method of weight pressure (cf. the above-mentioned booklet) is proposed for circular-cylindrical shearing surfaces, and the above-mentioned method of inclined interaction forces for plane shearing surfaces.

Several examples are given to illustrate the methods proposed."
