Description
This is a good copy of Zane Greys, An American Angler in Australia. It is a first edition B-M (stated) by Harpers Bros Publishers 1937. The Book is 24cms x 17cms. The covers are green board and have gilt front cover writing and on the spine.
The book contains over 30 spectacular photos that back up the wild, exciting stories in this book.
It is a great catalogue of his catches of sharks and marlin whilst in Australian waters.
This book is over 90 years old and contains some wonderfully accurate comment about the future for the Australian Big Game Fishery.
Zane Grey caught world record fish in Australian waters including a massive Tiger Shark of 1036 lb. (470 kgs)! Mako, Thresher and bronze whalers were every where. Grey Nurse sharks, hammerheads, and ultimately a Great White or as he called them the White Death Shark was taken. The fights with the sharks was amazing and he and his crew tried to catch as many as possible. He describes the sharks eating their mates once the blood was in the water. The fight were not just on rod and line but also hand to hand combat with gaffs and spears when the sharks attracted by a fish on the line tried
to make a meal out of their mate on the line.
He caught some yellowfin tuna, to good size and in 1936 these fish were unknown to the locals.
As usual Zane Greys words are painting pictures. 90 years ago this was real pioneering stuff and he was adamant that he report about the findings of new species and the huge size of some he had encountered elsewhere. You will enjoy the times he has with the sharks and how his win and lose battles affected him.
