Jan Wolkers was born in 1925 and is a painter and sculptor who made his debut as a writer at the age of thirty-five. This is his fifth novel and is a best-seller in his native Holland, where it has also been made into a film and a long-playing record.

The film, distributed by Columbia Pictures, is soon to be released in a dubbed version in this country. The book has also been published with great success in France, Germany and the Scandinavian countries."
