Could you please list dimensions. Longest length, depth and return length. Once the bench is cut , would you be able to post updated photos? BTW. If builder cuts it at the hob insert area, it would make rewelding easier. I would think a reweld along the seam where it was originally welded would possibly be quite awkward. When they are made, they are welded along all the flats, leaving only an area at the back to puch and glue the mdf in. Then the last small seam welded. To do a reweld the mdf has to be removed first. So if that is done at the full width it is really hard. Much easier to remove the mdf and reweld at the smallest distance, which in your case looks like the hob cut out.
