Description
The original kiwi bach that was once a landmark at 73 Marine Parade is up for sale.
Loved by our family for decades and admired by many, the 1920s bach was removed from its grassy knoll overlooking the pacific ocean and Rabbit Island and relocated in 2015 to storage. Our plans to relocate her to another site on the coast, do her up, create an extension with a few mod-cons and plenty more space for extended whanau, have been waylaid and the time has come for the bach to find another home.
This black bach is quintessentially kiwi and something of a relic now that palatial plastered beach houses have become the norm of our kiwi coastline. It was once an absolute treasure and reeks of salad days. Low slung windows framing the sea view, walls lined with dark stained native timber and a pitched ceiling, it has the feeling of being in the captain's cabin of a ship. There are two small bedrooms, and a small bathroom off one. A toilet and wash house is out the back of the house.
The house is being sold as-is-where-is. The photos here are several years old and the building has suffered some neglect while in storage the past few years. While there is plenty of maintenance and repair required to take this 100 year old beauty into the future, we have had several builders inspect the building and it simply requires someone with a bit of creativity to see it through.
