Description
This Record 74 vice dates back to the 1950s. Unlike most other Record vices that had blue paint, this is factory red. It comes from a set - the larger 75 and smaller 80 Imp vice. An earlier Record 74 Autovice completes the set.
The jaws are 100mm wide and they open to 114mm. The vice weighs 11.8kg. It has a swivel base to enable the vice to be swivelled and firmly locked at any point for convenience of working. The offset jaws enable long and wide work to be mounted vertically. It has a hardened steel anvil. The pipe grips are complete with a hardened steel jaw (very rarely available).
Pipe and rod bender incorporated into the main frame. Fill pipe with sand tamp down hard seal both ends and can bend perfectly to required shape (ideal for brake tubing). Has the original detachable steel clam soft jaws faced with a special fibreto prevent damage while gripping items likely to be damaged by steel jaws. Original screw protection steel cover is in place.
In summary this is a collector's dream. In great condition for its' age and retains a great patina. The best reason to look out for patinas is that they are a sign that an antique is genuine. An antique that has an even patina over its surface suggests that it has been left to develop it over decades, if not centuries. An even patina shows that an antique is a complete original.
A great investment. Lightly cleaned and lubricated.
