Description

Has been used with care to digitize the negatives, slides and photos of my family and relatives. Some very minor scratches on scanning plates from general wear & tear.

With a regular flatbed scanner, the optical reader and the light source come from the same direction. With a negative scanner you have this option, plus the option of the light source instead coming from inside the lid and aiming at the optical reader. This is the fundamental difference that allows negatives and transparent media to be scanned.

The scanner comes with a 110 film / 16 mm film holder. I had to order this separately from the USA, and it seems to have been 3D-printed, so it is a little crude, but works well if you have a steady pair of hands. It slots into the larger Epsom-supplied film holder.

Comes with the standard software CDs. I can give you a pair of white cotton gloves, a handheld dust blower and a dust brush, if you would like them.

I can personally deliver the scanner to (probably) anywhere in Auckland City. Just let me know what suburb you are thinking of, or otherwise I can meet you downtown and hand it to you. I can also courier it to you if you are outside of Auckland, but as it is a delicate machine, I would prefer to hand it over personally.

If you like I can install it and get it running on your computer, and give you a quick tutorial on how it works. It took me a while to pick the right settings and get started, so I'm happy to help the next person. If you would like my help, just ask :-) I left a sticker on the lid of the scanner, reminding me to lock or unlock the optical reader when packing it away or setting it up. I suggest you leave it there as it was a classic thing I kept forgetting, and the scanner made angry noises when I tried to use it and it was locked(!)

All original parts, manuals, CDs, cables etc are included, with the exception of the cream-coloured communication cable, which I swapped. Everything is in running order. Only selling it because I have scanned everything I wanted to.

  • Hi. A few questions sorry! Does it have the tray for standard 35mm negatives? Can you post a photo if the unit especially the scratches? Does this effect scan quality at all? Does it come with Silverlight software? Thx. 🙏🏼 dpan (301) • 7:32 am, Fri, 13 Feb Hi, no problem :-) Yes, it has two trays for 35mm negatives. While one tray is being scanned, you can prepare the next one. I've now uploaded photos of the minor scratches, though it is hard to see them in the photo, sorry. They are shallow and never affected the scan quality for me. Yes, Silverlight is part of the software included. Happy to answer any more questions you have :-) Cheers jjws (219) • Friday, 13 February 2026
  • There are cheaper negative scanners available, but I bought this one because each type of media you scan has 2 large-capacity trays, so you can scan 12 slides, or up to 18 negatives (3 strips of 6 frames each), while you prepare the next batch to be scanned. You can then walk away and have your watch/cell remind you to come back at the approximate time it finishes scanning. If you have lots to scan at high quality, this negative scanner will save you lots of time compared to the alternatives. Seller comment Friday, 13 February 2026
  • Hi. I have offered my best price. I have some colleagues in Auckland until Wednesday so hoping you can accept offer and we can arrange a drop-off to Ascot Hospital, beside Ellerslie Racecourse. Thank you. dpan (301) • 7:06 am, Mon, 16 Feb Hello, thank-you for your offer! I purchased the scanner brand-new, so I am hoping to recover more of that cost, and not sell it at such a loss. I've also already had one offer higher than your best one. The Epson Perfection V850 Pro is still top-of-the-line, and it will still be easy for you to re-sell for a good price relative to what I am expecting. I am more than happy to personally deliver it to Ascot Hospital if you win it on Sunday :-) Thanks! jjws (219) • Monday, 16 February 2026
