Description
From its introduction in 1985, the PC-7000's praise and steady sales encouraged the increased use of LCDs in portable computers, making the Pc-7000 a hallmark machine in the evolution of portable computers. This is a working example which is now hard to find. I have made a YouTube video where I have torn the machine down and have shown all you need to know: https://youtu.be/BoZ6JKT5orA?si=L0Y8ITqQKo6QwWNi
Pickup from Newlands, Wellington highly recommended. If you want delivery this can be arranged at your expense and risk.
I have removed the battery to save it from leaking and damaging the system as shown in the video. You can easily devise a replacement made from a modern CR2032 or similar solution. I will include the original battery for reference though. The only issue is a sluggish 'P' key which I serviced in the video. When not used for a while, it needs a good bit of encouragement to get going, but starts working again normally after a few pressure based key presses. I would recommend sanding the contact with normal paper in time.
The backlight works perfectly and can be changed to be on/off/dim/bright in the setup menu, accessed from the keyboard which is a handy feature. You can also reduce the speed to 4.77Mhz if desired, like a turbo button.
