The EAR Phonobox uses a unique toroidal transformer designed by Tim Paravicini, realising excellent silence as a tube phono stage.  To prevent sound quality degradation, the circuit is as simple as possible, wiring is as short as possible, and the RCA jack is directly mounted on the PC board.

As a standard feature, volume control has been added, and power amplifiers can be driven directly.   EAR Phonobox still uses tubes, three 13D16 twin triodes but one can use ECC83 via moving a jumper inside the box. There is step-up transformers for MC use.

The design of the new EAR Phonobox was done by Nevin De Paravicini. It’s a compact, simple and beautiful design that has evolved into a modern look. It was necessary to place the vacuum tube horizontally instead of vertically, this meant other parts had to be placed without interference, pursuing beauty was not easy, and it was finally made possible through trial and error.
