This is one of the gem's from Altec, the 604-8K studio monitor. I have housed them in a full range cabinet designed to provide optimal efficiency and dynamic range in a corner loaded position.

These speakers are very well voiced and will provided you with all day fatigue-free listening, or a big night of fun with all your "audiophile" mates!

Drivers The drivers are 604-8K, and have been re-coned and have new diaphragms fitted. Great Plains Audio supplied the new cones and diaphragms which are manufactured in the USA from the original Altec tooling.

Crossover The (phase corrected) crossover is designed by Jeff Markwart, and widely considered and an improvement over Altec's original design. The crossover includes vintage hermetically sealed paper in oil capacitors, Milflex copper foil, paper & oil capacitors, Clarity Cap CSA series capacitors, Duelund resistors and wire, Cardas binding posts.

Cabinet The cabinet is 9 cubic feet, 718mm wide x 1272mm high and 622mm deep. It is constructed from high grade Baltic Birch plywood with American Maple solid wood clashing. The front baffle is 36mm thick. The cabinet sits on 3 outriggers, with adjustable glides (to account for uneven floors).

It is sealed and has a soft wax finish. The finish can be maintained with furniture oil, or wax.

The cabinet was drawn up as a shop drawing in CAD and I'm happy to provide to anyone interested.

I have several other significant speaker projects under way at the moment, and although it's not ideal, moving these along would allow me to free up a little space.
