Zest Keto BHB Urine Strips are a the most accurate way to test for nutritional ketosis for ketogenic dieters.

Unlike cheap urine strips which measure a ketone called acetoacetate, new technology Zest Keto bhbSTIX® are the only urine strips available in NZ which can measure beta-hydroxybutyrate (BHB). The only other way is ketone blood testing)

Here' s the science... Beta-hydroxybutyrate (BHB), is one of the three ketone bodies your liver makes when it’s running low on carbs.

The 3 are:: - Beta-hydroxybutyrate (BHB). This is the most abundant ketone in the body, typically making up ~78% of ketones found in the blood. BHB is the intended final product of ketogenesis. It can only be measured using bhbSTIX® or Ketone Blood Meters.

• Acetoacetate. This ketone body makes up around 20% of ketones in the blood. It is important to note that acetoacetate is less stable than BHB. Acetoacetate is tested by using normal ketone urine strips.
• Acetone. The least abundant of the ketones; it makes up about 2% of ketones in the blood. It’s not used for energy and is excreted from the body almost immediately. Tested using a breath meter.

NOTE: BHB is the main ketone used for energy because it’s extremely stable and abundant. When trying to achieve a reliable ketosis reading, Beta-Hydroxybutyrate demonstrates excellent stability which makes it the most accurate and reliable indicator of nutritional ketosis.

The only drawback is that while testing for BHB is the only really accurate measure, the process is more complex and therefore expensive.

So BHBSTIX® are the better indicator of ketosis than the cheap AcAc strips you can buy nearly everywhere. Now you can get the accuracy of ketone blood testing with the ease of urine testing.
