Maceration of Plantain (Plantago major) and Chickweed (Stellaria media) leaves in Sunflower Oil, and Beeswax.

Both these plants grow wild, & contain natural anti-histamines, they are cooling & soothing. They are used for the relief of itching, rashes, allergic skin reactions & insect bites and stings. We’ve had good feedback, that when used on the rashes of Chicken Pox & Measles, the Chicken Pox blisters went down over night, leaving hardly a mark, & itching was greatly relieved. Can also be used on ulcers as a gentle healer.

At Millstream Gardens, we have been making and selling our herbal ointments for 35 years now. The plants used in making our salves come from our gardens, are gathered wild from our land, or from plant matter or extracts that we buy in. Beeswax comes from a local Apiary, and the Sunflower Oil, which forms the basis of most of our macerations, is NZ made.

Most of our ointments are made using herbal macerations. Maceration is the process of steeping fresh herbs in oil and leaving in the sun for several weeks, or gently heating the mixture to transfer the herbal oils from the plant into the oil. Beeswax is added to give a firm consistency, and contributes healing properties. This makes application and storage cleaner and easier.
