Description
Late 19th or early 20th century. Beautiful carved details with leather inlay top. Over 100 years old, perfect for a home office or period restoration. Late 19th – early 20th century.
It shows a well preserved and cared for patina for its age. The leather surface is a little faded and has a few character marks but these don’t detract from its useability.
Dimensions: 140cm wide, 80.5cm deep, 79 high.
The leather inlay provides a surprisingly firm writing surface. A computer mouse works perfectly on the leather without the need for a mouse pad!!!
All 5 drawers slide easily. The large file drawer glides effortlessly on sturdy steel & ball bearing rails. These were probably retro fitted years ago before cheap sliders were invented.
Its unique style would enrich any decor old or new.
One internal shelf and one file drawer. No loose or wobbly hinges. There’s a "Hidden" compartment at the rear of the large filing drawer, perfect for discreet storage of valuable items.
The drawers are all made from oak except for the base of the file drawer. Locks and hinges are brass. One of the drawer locks works and has a key. Never had the other keys. but they could easily be supplied by a locksmith. Some of the drawers have ink stains as a reminder the days when ink bottles and fountain pens were the standard writing implements. These could easily be covered by a drawer liner, but we have never bothered as it forms part of the desk’s character.
None of the items on, in or beside the desk as shown in the photos are included.
The two pedestals and the top (along with the front and rear facings) detach with a few screws allowing for easy moving. Two people will be needed to move it from our house.
Buyer must pick up from Remuera.
