Description
Purple star apple (Chrysophyllum cainito), also known as milk fruit and originating from South America, is highly appealing due to its attractive appearance. It thrives in well-drained soil and can be pruned into desired shapes once it reaches maturity (around 8-10 years).
The fruit of this tree is best left to ripen on the tree until it loses its shiny color and becomes slightly soft. To minimise damage to the tree, it is recommended to clip the fruit from the tree. When served chilled, the fruit offers a sweet flavor with hints of apple, lychee, and persimmon.
To ensure optimal growth, this tree requires a sunny and warm location that is sheltered from wind and frost. In regions south of Auckland, it can be cultivated in a greenhouse. While it can be grown in a pot, doing so will reduce its size and fruit yield.
Caring for this tree involves protecting it from frost and wind, as it is not tolerant of cold, wet roots.
Please note - we are a nursery with more than one of each product. The products in the images are stock photos, and the product you receive will differ, but will be the same quality and size.
