Thai basil is a type of basil native to Southeast Asia that has been cultivated to provide distinctive traits. Thai basil var. thyrsiflora is a sturdy, aromatic herb known for its distinct Liquorice-Anise flavour, narrow green leaves, Purple stems, and Pink-purple flowers. Its beautiful! Unlike sweet basils, it holds up well in high-heat cooking like stir-fries (e.g., Pad Krapow) and curries, plus many other Thai and Vietnamese dishes. Also good for salads and microgreens, and for bruschetta and pasta.

Great companion plant for tomatoes, cucumbers and corn. Many gardeners mix various types of basil in their flower beds, where it is ready for a quick harvest any time. Mature plants can be cut and dried for Winter use. Also lovely in a mixed herb planter.
Grows into a bush roughly 30–45cm.

HOW TO GROW:

Sow Spring, Summer

Sow direct into the garden or in trays of good seedling mix. Lightly cover with 3mm of mix, gently firm down and keep moist. Best temperatures 20-25°C. Germination from approx 10-12 days. Plant seedlings 20-30cm apart, or into pots.
