Aroha Stone (Stone of Love) also known as Piemontite Shist.
Rich in manganese giving its deep dark pink.
Strikingly beautiful stone.
Piemontite Schist is a metamorphic stone formed under high pressure and heat. The mineralogy includes quartz ( the vast majority), Albite and oliglocase feldspars, micas, garnet, and amphibole occasionally present.
Metamorphism is a powerful geological process - under intense heat and pressure, deep within the earth's crust rocks melt and fuse, atoms combine and new rocks are formed. Piemontite is one of these, Pounamu like Kawakawa, Kahurangi, Kokopu, Inanga are also examples. Grossular garnet is another example.
