It is stamped both 14k and 585 (the European standard). Total weight 4.6 grams. The rubies are of 'native' cut, a mixture of facetted ovals and rounds, and dark purplish red. Stones vary in size from 3.9 mm x 3.0 mm to 3.0 mm x 2.1 mm and 3.0 mm slightly out of round, according to the appraisal report.

The replacement value given way back in 2006 was NZ$1675, and that was based on the low gold value then of just over US$622 per ounce. In November 2023 the official gold price rose to more than US$ 2000 per ounce (!!!) , that is more than three times the value on which the 2006 valuation was based and it has the potential to rising further again.. so this ring would not only be an outstanding present, also a good investment for the future.
