Franchise overview: Psycho-Pass is a 2012 cyberpunk psychological thriller anime by Production I.G, set in a dystopian Japan governed by the Sibyl System, which monitors citizens’ mental states to predict crime. The story follows rookie Inspector Akane Tsunemori and her team of Enforcers as they investigate crimes within this surveillance society. The series received critical acclaim and expanded into multiple seasons, films, novels, manga and games, becoming a major sci-fi anime franchise.
Movie Overview The anime was produced by Production I.G and directed by Naoyoshi Shiotani, released for the franchise’s 10th anniversary. Set before Psycho-Pass 3 and First Inspector, it follows Akane Tsunemori investigating terrorist attacks by the Peacebreakers, with help from returning ally Shinya Kogami. The film received generally positive reviews and grossed about $640,825 in Japan.
While attending a meeting as Chief Inspector of the Public Security Bureau, Akane Tsunemori receives a report that an incident occurred on a foreign vessel—beginning a large and unexpected case.
