Description
As a musician, if you owned a Portastudio in the 90's you were basically god. This beautiful machine opened many DAWS of perception for me, and gave me so much joy on early recording projects. It's been a few years since I used it, but I kept it very well maintained and stored (de-dusted / magnetic heads cleaned / stored nicely etc)
Test for auction reveals everything working as it should, with crisp yet warm analog recording capability intact.
Old school gear heads will be familiar with this model, but for the uninitiated, it is a relatively portable recording studio that ye olden day folk used to use "Cassettes" in to record things, often layering and overdubbing, changing pitch speeds, looping and getting jiggy on the dials.
I'd love for more young people to enjoy the feeling of layering up tracks on magnetic strips, so am hoping that whoever purchases this gets as much love out of it as I did.
Pick ups preferred, but can ship if necessary. I'm open to offers, but these things cost ~$600 in the mid-nineties, and have appreciated over time. They're pretty hard to track down now.

Not a question, I bought the last one of this exact 4trk from Wellington Rock Shop, i almost was persuaded to buy the Minidisc version! They definitely were the best 4trk home recorders in their day! This model is preset for type 2 CrO2 tapes, however this is not really an issue. The DBX noise reduction was better than Dolby, for DI recording, but I usually just went for the full range, hiss is minimal as long as the rec levels are correct. The Parametric EQ blew me away! b**********d (40 • 7:54 pm, Tue, 21 May )That's correct - if you were being fancy, you'd ensure a steady supply of type 2 chrome cassettes. I remember buying them in bulk from Disk Den in Dunedin...stowing away for the apocalypse. Kinda wish I stored those too, lol. Needless to say, you can put any old cassette in there and get it cranking good. Tended to avoid DBX myself, and fully exploited that warm, rich texture these beasts create. snorling (18 • Tuesday, 21 May 2024 )
