The Genius Cat Food Cabinet - Microchip Entry - Stop Rogue Cat Food Theft

My cat had a neighbourhood cat friend who he invite home to share his food. I would witness this other cat eat his food daily!

I viewed this as a problem and my position was that I wanted an end to it. Another problem I noticed was that flies would lay eggs in the cat meat regularly and I would throw it out and serve fresh cat meat again and again!

I used a jig saw and cut holes the timber so I could change the food standing. I installed a microchip cat door and I installed a manual escape door in the opposite wall (escape out but no entry) I also came up with a way to keep his meat cold so it wouldn’t heat up and spoil, and being cool it didn’t attract flies: so I have a circular chilly bin that can be filled with an ice container insert with his meat above it! To combat flies I stapled a netting on the inside to seal the cabinet

I taught my cat how to use the cabinet and he learned quick. I simply put him inside and opened the door and he would walk out, I repeated the process a few times by leaving him in front of his food on the top shelf and closing the cabinet and opening the car door, and he learned where his food was and how to exit. To teach him to enter it I encouraged him to go inside by helping him through. After a few attempts to help him enter he quickly adapted to it and I would see him enter whenever he was hungry

He used this cabinet for 5 years

He initially had a collar with the microchip tag on after he lost the tag, I programmed his surgical neck microchip that SPCA had inserted before I had adopted him. So, he had no need for a collar and could simply enter and exit at will

The manual door works. I’m not sure about the microchip door because I have lost the tags and I have not checked its condition
