We’re looking to rehome our family chinchilla, Topo, due to an upcoming overseas relocation. We never thought we’d have to give him up, but unfortunately the country we’re moving to does not allow chinchillas.

Topo has been part of our family for over ten years. He turned 10 in December and has been healthy his entire life. He’s a happy, well-adjusted chinchilla who has been consistently and lovingly cared for.

He’s used to people and enjoys company, though he does best with consistency and a calm, predictable routine. He has a distinct, cheeky personality - very observant, affectionate in his own way, and rewarding to spend time with.

Topo is used to daily interaction and playtime in the evenings, so having the time to spend with him is important. He has always lived on his own. He would suit someone with prior chinchilla experience, or someone genuinely willing to learn about their care needs.

Topo’s suitcase will include cage, in which he has a large wheel, and a variety of the different foods that he is used to. He also brings with him a dust bath, and some wooden toys.

Some people have asked if he would adapt well with other chinchillas - I don’t know but happy to introduce him to others as a trial. He is very gentle and inquisitive with new people so I would like to think he would enjoy the company of another chinchilla.

This isn’t about finding just any home - it’s about finding the right one. I’m very happy to answer questions, talk through what day-to-day care looks like, and share more information with genuinely interested people.

Topo's current home is in Miramar, Wellington. I would prefer he find a new family in the Wellington region so his travel is not too lengthy but if you are the right person then we can be flexible.
