Description
An "Under the Greenwood Tree" series plate with a green trim.
Charles Noke joined Royal Doulton Burslem in 1889 and became the company's Art Director. It was his concept to feature different series of patterns that included Coaching Days, Shakespearean characters, Under the Greenwood Tree(Robin Hood), Wild Roses and many others. The Under the Greenwood series ware was in production from 1914-1967. Pictured in the scene are Robin Hood, Maid Marion, Friar Tuck and some other 'merry' fellows.
Underneath, along with the special Doulton stamp used for the Under the Greenwood series, is a Royal Doulton backstamp introduced from 1930 and also the D6341 pattern number.
The plate has a green trim and 26cm diameter and is in good condition.
