MyDevice Layby Conditions in Plain English

A layby is a form of payment over time where you get the item once it is fully paid for. It is useful when you don’t have steady weekly income and set payments would be difficult.

MOST IMPORTANT – There is a minimum of 15% deposit to pay, and this is NON-refundable. So if you need to cancel the layby for any reason, then all your payments to that date will be refunded except for 15% of the price of the item.

To work this out, just multiply the full price by .15 (for example $1125 x .15 = $168.75)

Refunds will only be made into a bank account, not cash.

The maximum length of our layby terms is 3 months. If you fail to complete your payments then we will refund you as above less the deposit. If you are close to completing and are still wanting to complete the layby with more time then we can negotiate, there may be a small fee involved as there are actual costs for us in terms of time and effort, insurance, interest and storage.

IF we have not been paid more than 30% of the item’s price after 5 weeks we reserve the right to cancel the layby, again as above less the deposit. We may choose not to if we see regular payments and good communication.

We are REALLY quick at getting items on the courier, if an order comes in before 3pm it’s normally still on the courier THAT day! Tracking details are either emailed out by the courier firm or can be found on the ‘items I won’ page (desktop trade me pages only) The vast majority of our trades get delivered the next day. Obviously South Island and Rural take longer, it depends on where you are.

Sometimes there’s a few discussions about constitutes a rural delivery, generally with most courier companies you need to be within about 10-15km of a major town/city.

Otherwise: you are rural If you haven’t seen any cars for 3 days: you are rural You look out your window and see sheep: you are rural Your nearest supermarket is a 20 minute drive: you are rural Google can’t find you: you are rural You live where there’s less than 5000 people: you are rural

That should help! The majority of our trade have free courier anyway but some of the lower priced items don’t sorry.

Generally our warranty is for 3 months, which we think is very fair for a refurbished item. With laptops if there should be a fault it will generally show up in the first few weeks. Even though we do VERY thorough testing, something can always slip through. As you can see from our feedback though, we are extremely fair in our warranty dealings with customers. The warranty is a BTB (back to base) warranty, meaning it is your responsibility to get it back to us to appraise. We will repair or replace at our discretion, or refund as a last resort, again, at our discretion. There’s a few things that sometimes people think are covered under warranty but are not, like accidental damage, liquid damage or the like. Also software is NOT covered by warranty, so if you wipe the operating system or forget your password, we will have to make a small charge for restoring things to normal for you.

In the unlikely event that you need to send something to us, PLEASE make sure ALL your details and a description of the fault are included in the parcel and that it is well wrapped. Sending a $1000 laptop in a single layer bubblewrap bag with no other protection is something we see sometimes. Don’t be that guy!
