Released in August 2016, the LEGO® Technic Bucket Wheel Excavator (42055) was the largest LEGO® Technic set to date at the time, with over 3,900 pieces. Bucket-wheel excavators (or BWEs) are used in large-scale mining operations to continuously dig and remove huge amounts of material using a pattern of buckets on a turning wheel. While this LEGO® Technic BWE wasn’t able to remove massive tons of rock, builders could use the LEGO® Power Functions for an array of motorised functions, including forward and reverse driving, rotating the bucket wheel, moving conveyor belts and activating the bucket wheel boom.
